Become a major donor

MindFood is grateful for any gift. Our vital work is only possible thanks to the support of generous donors like you. We define a major supporter as anyone who has pledged or given £5,000 or more in philanthropic support.

Join our MindFood family

There are many ways you can help our cause, and we can work with you to support your giving in a way that suits you. Being a major supporter, you can join the MindFood Family and receive regular updates on our work and attend our exclusive events.

Make a difference

We’ll share the impact your support has on shaping lives. We’re incredibly grateful to all our supporters for helping us to shape a better future for people with mental health issues.

Exclusive events

You will be invited to exclusive events that connect you with our cause and celebrate our successes together.

Donating land, property or shares

This is one of the most tax-effective ways to give to MindFood. You do not have to pay tax on land, property or shares you donate to us. This includes selling them for less than their market value.

You get tax relief on both:

  • Income Tax
  • Capital Gains Tax

And you can claim tax relief on any costs linked to your donation, like brokers’ fees.

You will receive income tax relief by deducting the market value of the asset (less the value of anything you receive from MindFood in return) from your taxable income, through a claim in your tax return.

  • Basic rate taxpayers will save tax of 20%.
  • Higher rate taxpayers will save tax at 40%.
  • Additional rate taxpayers will save tax at 45%.

Income Tax relief

You can pay less Income Tax by deducting the value of your donation from your total taxable income. Do this for the tax year (6 April to 5 April) in which you made the gift or sale to MindFood.

Gift Aid

As long as you are a UK taxpayer and sign a Gift Aid declaration, MindFood is able to reclaim basic rate tax, which currently equates to 25p for every £1 donated.

If you are a higher rate or additional rate taxpayer, you can claim further income tax relief in respect of the gift, through your tax return or through your PAYE tax code, if you have one.

Any tax relief on a donation to MindFood under the Gift Aid scheme can be advanced to the previous tax year. To do this, the gift must be made before tax return for the previous tax year has been submitted.
